Introduction

This oral history volume contains 12 interviews of victims and their families of the White Terror in Taiwan conducted between 2007 and 2024. It is part of a continuing effort by the Institute of Taiwan History, Academia Sinica to preserve the memory of people affected by the White Terror through carrying out projects entrusted by the National Human Rights Museum since 2012. Among the interviewees, Lin Shu-chih (1946-2023), a political activist and writer, was a victim jailed twice. The others described the difficulties and how they navigated life as the wife and offspring of political victims.
