
This is a new edited and annotated version of the oral history of Hsieh Hsueh-hung (1901-1970), a Taiwanese Communist leader, first published in 1997. The book begins with Hsieh’s family background and how she was sold to a family to become a future daughter-in-law. Several months after an attempted suicide, Hsieh ran off and ended up in an involuntary marriage. Later, she became involved with patriotic movement in China, sent to Moscow for study, and given the assignment to establish the Taiwanese Communist Party. The book sheds light on her resilience, perseverance, and determination and her political beliefs of devoting her life to the poor and freedom of Taiwanese.
