This book is a collection of papers by the South Cape Lightkeeper, George Taylor. The papers shine a strong light on the manners, personalities and physical environment of South Cape society in the 1880s. Taken as a whole they make up a corpus of great interest: they directly reflect first-hand field experience at a time before the Japanese took over possession of Taiwan. The book was edited by Glen Dudbridge with an introduction.
