Introduction

This book contains selected artworks and papers of Chen Chih-Chi (1906-1931), one of the Taiwanese pioneer artists in Western art, from a collection held at the Institute of Taiwan History Archive, Academia Sinica. During Chen’s short life, he managed to have his paintings picked by various art exhibitions, including twice in the prestigious Imperial Art Exhibition of Japan. He also involved actively in local art societies and art education with his contemporary artists.
