Introduction

This rare diary left by Chen Ling (1875-1939), a female member of the prominent Wufeng Lin family in central Taiwan. The diary is mainly about her household affairs, including raising four children. It offers a sneak peek into the role of a widow in the big family. Chen Ling is a concubine of Lin Ji-tang (1874-1922), a cousin of the famous Taiwanese landowner and political activist Lin Hsien-tang (1881-1956).
